Carpathians Wooden Churches
The collection of paintings Carpathians Wooden Churches contains 33 paintings by the painter Stepan Sigetiy (1926-2014) with unique wooden churches mostly of Transcarpathia, some of which have already been lost. This is the largest private collection of Stepan Sigetiy’s Wooden Church paintings.
Stepan Sigetiy is the first painter who began to paint the wooden churches mostly of Transcarpathia as a complete series and start of fixation the unique cultural and sacred heritage.
During more than 30 years, Stepan Sigetiy depicted more than 60 different wooden churches of Transcarpathia. Drawing these churches was the calling of his soul, he was impressed by their uniqueness and originality, most of which are architectural masterpieces of the Carpathian region. Individual wooden churches of the Carpathians, which have already been lost, are immortalized on his canvases, in particular, the churches in the villages of Neresnytsia and Kryve. So you can see these churches sometimes only in the paintings of the artist. Belief in goodness and the desire to pass on to posterity the unique beauty of unique sacred architecture and native landscapes, optimistic moods and vivid emotions are special features of Stepan Sigetiy’s works. Many of his works were written under the influence of the music of I. S. Bach.

The Church of the Intercession was built in 1792 in the village of Ploske in the Svalyava district, in 1927 it was relocated to the village of Kanor in the Volovets district, and in 1976 the church was relocated to the National Museum of Folk Architecture and Life of Ukraine in Pyrogovo, near Kyiv.

Wooden church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary of the 18th century, in 1930, was relocated from the village of Obava of Mukachevo district to the city of Nova Paka (Czech Republic).
